Toronto and Melbourne Research Training Group PhD project

CAPIM is participating in the Toronto and Melbourne Research Training Group set up between the University of Melbourne, Australia, and the University of Toronto, Canada.  The group comprises researchers and jointly awarded PhD candidates from both universities.

As part of the initiative, CAPIM Director Assoc. Prof. Suzie Reichman and Assoc. Prof. Myrna Simpson from the University of Toronto have established a fully funded PhD project on microplastics in soil.  The project is investigating the relationships between natural carbon in soil and microplastic-related synthetic carbon with a particular emphasis on the differences in impacts between traditional nonbiodegradable plastic and newer biodegradable plastic sources. The PhD student is undertaking the project in Melbourne and Toronto, with a proposed start date of September 2022.
